Current Offerings
Adult Formation:
THE SOCIETY of ST. ARBUCKS meets weekly at 9:00 on Sundays. This lighthearted gathering for conversation about faith and life is held weekly in the St. Andrew’s Room. Grab some coffee and join the conversation.
Small Group Information
Saint Andrew’s aims to provide people the opportunity to come together in small groups loosely organized around particular interests. We currently have three small groups: Cooking; Creative Arts; and Theology. Short descriptions of each are below.
Each group has its own personality and practices. But all groups meet something like once a month. Typical meetings last something like an hour and a half; begin and end with prayer, and include time for organized conversation/activities as well as informal fellowship.
Cooking Group
The Gospels are full of stories about shared meals, one of which we commemorate every weekend when we celebrate Eucharist. This group will continue that tradition by coming together to cook and eat. Enough said! MaryEllen Brush coordinates this group.
Creative Arts Group
God creates us in God’s own image and likeness, which means we are all little creators in our own right. This group takes that seriously. They gather to do art, and to have fun in the process. They explore a range of different art forms, and people of all ability levels are welcome. Sue Corriveau and Marie Starski coordinate this group.
Theology Group
This Group explores the more intellectual side of our faith. In the last three years, we read and discussed Alister McGrath’s Theology: The Basics; McGrath’s Surprised By Meaning: Science, Faith, and How We Make Sense of Things; and James Griffiss, The Anglican Vision. We will choose a new book/topic this fall. Father Harvey has been leading this group.
About Spiritual Formation
In our Baptismal Covenant, we vow to “continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers.” Formation includes everything that helps us live out this vow and grow in our life in God. By that definition, virtually everything we do at St. Andrew’s counts as formation!
Still, some of our activities emphasize formation more than others. These are our ongoing and short-term offerings explicitly designed to help adults grow in their relationship with God, live more fully the Christian life, and explore multiple topics of interest.
Throughout the program year (September – June), we regularly offer courses during these time blocks:
- Sunday mornings at 9 a.m.
- Wednesday Bible Study at 1 p.m.
- Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.
Other programs and activities, such as workshops, movie nights, and retreats, are offered at other times throughout the program year AND the during the summer months.
Small groups also gather regularly to pursue particular interests, including Contemplative Prayer; Christian Theology; the Creative Arts; the Women’s Book Fellowship; and more. Groups are being added all the time!
We welcome questions, and we see doubt as a tool to gain understanding, not as the antithesis to faith.
